They Might Be Giants We got kind of a late start, because both myself, and my friend were off of work later than we had planned for. So, after a quick bite to eat at Hot N' Hunky, a burger joint in the Castro, we were on the MUNI headed for the Warfield. Recreational herbs had been burning locally, and so I felt a bit giggly and happy. The train ride was fun, and I was excited because this was my first outing since escaping from a pretty crappy relationship...I was ripe for some fun. So, we get to the Warfield, and it was the break between bands; we had missed the opening act. Hell, I don't even remember who it was! When the band came up on stage, they were very very hyped to be there, I could just tell. They thanked us for coming out, despite the recent attacks on the WTC, and said they had just DRIVEN all the way from New York City. The crowd just went fucking bonkers when the singer said that, and the mood was set. Mind you, I have been hearing They Might Be Giants for years, but had never seen or heard them live. I had no idea what to expect. Well, let me tell you, THEY ROCKED THE HOUSE! They played several songs from their new album, which I am not familiar with, but the songs were rockin', with lots of great rhythm, percussion, and great guitar work. Then, they got crazy and played our old favorites like "Don't Let's Start," and "Birdhouse in Your Soul." Man, what a sound. I really enjoyed how excited the band was to be there playing for us. At one point, as we sat high up in the balcony of the beautiful and historic Warfield, in beautiful San Francisco, we started to make out passionately while TMBG played on down below. In short, it was a great show, a great night, and I danced in the aisle shamelessly as a teen to the fabulous sounds of They Might Be Giants. If any of you get a chance to see them live, I highly recommend it...who knows, maybe you'll get lucky, too. |
